It would not be unusual as your body adjust to a normal menstrual cycle for something like this to happen. Your concern though is valid and if this is not the first time or if your period happens to do this again next month; then it would be time to consult a doctor, preferably a gynecologist.
Do not be concerned about having to tell your mom what is happening. Your period is not sex, it is a normal bodily function of a female. You can leave out the part about masturbating. As I said one has really nothing to do with the other. The reason you need to talk to mom is if you are under 14 years of age mom needs to make the appointment with a doctor.
If you are under 14 years of age mom can be in the exam room as well. If you don't want her there and you may not. Just ask her to wait in the waiting room while the doctor examines you, then she may come in. I'm sure the doctor will support this request if you ask. This will allow you to speak freely with the doctor just as you have with us.
When speaking with the doctor do not be embarrassed to tell the doctor everything that you are concerned about. Including if you want about masturbating. First, there is nothing wrong with masturbating. Second, there is nothing you will say that the doctor or the nurse has not heard before. Third, the more factual information you provide the better the doctor can treat you. [ adviceman49's advice column | Ask adviceman49 A Question ]
