Shaving My Area.

Question Posted Tuesday August 21 2012, 10:20 pm

I'm a girl and I haven't shaved in my area for a really long time. Right now, I have a bush but everytime I try to shave, it hurts and the hair doesnt seem to get off. Got any tips? Thanks.

Hello. Here are some tips:

1. If the hair is too long, trim it first. If you try to shave long hair, it will catch and hurt. It will also not come off. So trim with either an electric trimmer, or be VERY, VERY careful with scissor like trimmers. Just cut the hair so it is easily shave-able.

2. Shave after having a bath/shower. This will soften the hair, making it easier to shave.

3. Use a new razor - not an old one. Let it soak in hot water so the blades soften - making a smoother shave.

4. Lather up the area well. Massage a good quality shaving foam or gel or cream in. Massaging the product in makes sure it is evenly distributed. Use a sensitive product. Do not use soap, as it can burn and dry your skin out.

5. Shave in short, slow motions. Do not rush it, as the skin is very sensitive. Clean the razor in hot water after each stroke. Shave along the hair growth. If the hair is growing downwards, shave downwards. Shaving against the growth of the hair can lead to ingrown hairs and cuts.

6. After shaving, wash off all the gel/foam/cream. Splash the area with cold water. This is to close the pores, which open from the hot water.

7. Moisturize the area. Something like baby oil works well, because it stops the area from becoming dry. Otherwise, try to use something natural and simple. Avoid lotions with perfumes and lots of chemicals, as they can burn and cause infections.

Good luck!
