If your boyfriend really liked you, he wouldn't be acting like this. If he really wanted to be with you in a relationship, he wouldn't say that he didn't care. Even if he was very hurt by the joke, if he really liked you and wanted to be with you, he'd try to talk it out. A lot of the time when someone thinks they've been dumped (like he thought he was) if they are still really interested in the person, they will try to figure out why and see if the relationship can be fixed. I know you probably really like him, but this proves that he doesn't really like you. It's actually a good thing that your friend did this because it shows you what kind of person he is and it proves that he is not into you. As sad as it may be, you really should give up on this guy because he is really being a jerk to you. You didn't do anything wrong, it's just that the relationship isn't going to work from his end. It's better to know now than to have spent more time with him and found out later. Trust me, you'll find a much better guy to be with than him. Best of luck.
