Is it normal to only have a period every 5 or 6 months?

hey! i'm a 21 year old and i got my periods when i was 13. since then my periods have been irregular, sometimes i don't get a period till 5-6 months, i'd consulted a gynecologist some time back she told me that it was hereditary , but im worried about my health? is this normal?

No, it's not normal, but I know it's not all that uncommon; plenty of girls have oddly irregular periods. I have a cousin who didn't know she was pregnant for the first FOUR months because it wasn't unusual for her to have missed her period for so long. But I'm no expert, of course.Tthe person you should refer to and trust with this issue is your gynecologist; if she says you're fine, you should be.
