There are loads of different websites that list the most expensive/cheapest places to live. To figure these out, they usually take house prices/cost of living etc into account. Heres a list i found on google:

According to research conducted by the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center, the 10 most affordable states in the US are:

Oklahoma
Texas
Tennessee
Arkansas
Nebraska
South Dakota
Missouri
Kansas
Georgia
Mississippi

It would be difficult for someone to speak from experience, as they would have to had lives in every single state for a period of time.

Good luck in your decision :)
