Urgent Reply why oh why

Question Posted Tuesday May 22 2012, 3:37 am

a guy friend asked me " what are you up to tonight"? after he saw me with my friends like he saw me and he said hello and i replied back and I kept on talking to my friends and then he asked me " what are you up to tonight"? and I said just with friends and he said oh okay. So what did that mean? what is the underlying meaning of that particular question? Why do guys usually ask this? And this was at his work, just so you know. And def not a conversation starter.... so what did he mean and how should one answer this particular question? Did he wanted to do something or why did he really ask> what was the point? Why did he care what I did or do with my friends?
