Query on thick brown discharge during period

Question Posted Friday May 18 2012, 7:27 am

I am taking contraceptive pills prescribed by doctor for hormonal balance since a month. My periods are due and I am getting brown thick discharge, so can it be considered as first day of period? As I am supposed to start the next cycle of pills on the first day of periods.

Brown is just old blood. Technically yes it is your period.

It is possibly just old blood that wasn't fully washed out during your last menstrual cycle. It tends to happen from time to time, but it isn't something that you should worry about. If it does persist, and you have any other questions, it is best to speak with your doctor and allow him/her to put your mind at ease.
