I can't tell if she likes me or if that would be too good to be true

Question Posted Sunday April 29 2012, 1:08 pm

Here it is in a nutshell-
I've liked this girl for a while. She's funny, selfless, pretty, etc. The one friend I confided this in is telling me that she strongly believes that she likes me back. Apparently, she is happier when I'm around, hugs me a lot, and is pissy to everybody but me. I haven't noticed any of these things, plus, as far as I know, she's straight. Now another one of my friends is saying the same thing. I just can't imagine her actually liking me back. She is way too good for me and it just would be too good to be true. I'm not pretty, I have way too much baggage, and I'm a nerd. Plus, I've heard her say that she likes a guy. I want to believe my friends but I'm really skeptical. Please help?

First things first the priority ought to be on fixing your self-esteem. Nobody can love you nor can you love them without condition until you stop looking at yourself through a dirty window pane.

How do you know you're not pretty? Who put that idea into your head? Who says you're a nerd either? Be careful what you identify yourself as or you will forever have problems because of it.

You may be gorgeous and everything she wants for all you know. You have several problems here. The BIGGEST is you don't know if she's gay or not. That's huge because if you made a move and she wasn't and was only being friendly...

As for your friends TRUST ME I've recently had people tell me the same things you have been told only to find out the person we're both straight didn't want anything to do with me in that sense or afterward.

You can only trust yourself. Find out from her whether she's with anyone or not. She may bring up a guy. If you think she's straight she probably is.

You can mention to her that you're glad to have supportive friends because you aren't and see the reaction. If your gut tells you to be skeptical than be that. It's keeping you safe. I would just be FRIENDS now and settle for that and wait and see if anything evolved naturally. That way you don't miss out on a friend and don't humiliate yourself either.

As far as baggage goes no matter who you end up with leave it behind you as you don't need it. The past is the past and cannot be changed but it can't influence now or the future unless you give it the power to. Live in the moment and proceed ever forward and never back.

Sounds like she does!
This, my friend, is where the art of flirting comes in.
Drop a few hints, be playful with her. Its okay to do that in a nerdy way~ that would be considered cute :D

Make sure she "gets the message" and see how she responds.
If she goes all awkward with a horrified expression, back off, today is not your day.
BUT DONT GIVE UP
If she seems happy/interested , go for it!
