First of all, you must understand that semen can live inside of your body for up to 5 days. As well as when you are ovulating, where your egg is in your uterus for up to 5 days as well. My best advice, is if you dislike using condoms, there are other alternatives, such as birth control. There's the pill, the depo shot, plus many others. But if this is not an option for you, I would suggest using ovulation calculators, and getting a general idea of the days you are ovulating. And avoid having intercourse 6 days before ovulation, and so forth. Go to google and search for ovulation calculator. It will ask for several periods, be sure to mark exactly the day it started. So it can give you a more accurate reading. I'm not saying it's 100%, but you will at least have a general idea.

There is no perfect or appropriate time to have sex without the chance of getting pregnant. Really, the logical answer is to not have sex in the first place.
Of course, you can use condoms and birth control but even those are not 100% effective.
