medicine side effects: side effects or am I going insane?

Question Posted Sunday March 25 2012, 6:03 pm

my name is Rachel and i am a 22 year old woman and i just started taking a new medicine that's suppose to help me with my depression and to quit smoking and I just started taking it about a week ago and i have been having some weird symptoms and I don't know if it is from the medicine or i am just going crazy because how i have been acting is very unusual for me. I don't normally sleep walk and i spent the night at my best friends house the other night and she told me that I was sleep walking and spinning around in circles and pulling my hair saying my hair is short over and over again. I have also been seeing and hearing stuff and i don't normally see stuff are the side affects from wellbutrin? Do i need to talk to my doctor to see if it is okay for me to take the medicine or if i am starting to have severe mental problems other than my depression and mental retardation.

Since these problems are new one would have to believe they are related to the Wellbutrin. YOU NEED TO CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATLEY AND NOT TAKE ANY MORE OF THIS MEDICATION UNTIL YOU SPEAK WITH YOUR DOCTOR.

You could also talk with your pharmacist to see what he or she thinks. Not all the side effects that may be seen during the drugs trials are always listed. The pharmacist has access to more information on drugs than you or I do and can better advise you if you have trouble reaching your doctor.

If the pharmacist is unable to help you and you cannot reach you doctor these side affects are serious enough that I would advise going to a hospital emergency room or walk-in clinic.

Sleep walking is very disturbing as you are not aware of what you are doing. You could, and the worst thing we would want to have you do; is get in your car and drive around when you are sleep walking. Which has been done. So don't delay. CALL YOUR DOCTOR OR GO TO THE ER.

Hello, Here is some info from 'Drugs.com' :

Wellbutrin side effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to Wellbutrin: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Report any new or worsening symptoms to your doctor, such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.

Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect while taking Wellbutrin such as:

seizure (convulsions);
severe blistering, peeling, and red skin rash;
fever, swollen glands, rash or itching, joint pain, or general ill feeling;
confusion, trouble concentrating; or
hallucinations, unusual thoughts or behavior.
Less serious Wellbutrin side effects may include:

headache or migraine;
sleep problems (insomnia);
nausea, vomiting, constipation, dry mouth;
dizziness, tremors (shaking);
appetite changes, weight loss or gain;
mild itching or skin rash, increased sweating; or
loss of interest in sex.
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

It sounds like you should contact your doctor asap, as 'hallucinations' is one of the side effects.
