How to stop cutting yourself?

Question Posted Saturday February 11 2012, 2:02 pm

I cut myself of depression, and so does my friend.
I want to stop doing it, but I don't know how.
Please give advice!

When I was in the same position as you, I set goals for myself. For example, Try not cutting for 3 days, once you reach that goal...treat yourself to something. Then continue on to a week and so forth. But continue to treat yourself to something.

You don't necessarily have to do this you can also do other things such as, play games, draw, sing, dance, hang with friends, talk to people(especially when your feeling down. Sometimes just talking makes you feel better.), laugh, do anything that makes you feel better. But whatever you do do not cut!

Cutting doesn't solve your problems. I know how it feels and its really hard to stop. But the human mind can do anything once you set your mind to it.
Tell yourself, "I do not need to cut."
If I can do it so can you! You and your friend both.
If you need anything else feel free to message me. (:

It i not easy to stop cutting yourself but you have to think about it affects your family. My sister used to cut herself when i was younger but she didn't realize how much she was hurting me. So one day i sat down with her and let her know how it made me feel. After that she never cut herself again. Try as hard as you can to stop if you need to let out a little steam then beat up your pillow instead of cutting yourself.

Everybody is different. I stopped cutting without other people's help because I realized that I have a wonderful life and so much to life for. So my advice to you and your friend is to help each other out. You have somebody who understands what you are going through and together you can both find happiness in your lives and the positive things that make you smile and laugh. Also, one thing that I realized last year when my brother was in the hospital is that cutting yourself doesn't help anybody. Sure, it may seem like a way to get away from everything, but it harms your body and it hurts the people who love and care for you too. Please stop cutting, I know it's hard but be strong. It is possible. If you want somebody to talk to, just send me a message in my inbox and I'd be happy to help :)
