There is a theory that the universe (All metter, everything) was created by the big bang billions of years ago. There is also the statement I hear all the time, "Energy cannot be created nor destroyed" Would not this statement contradict a "beginning"? If the universe came to be through the big bang, so did energy. But if not, it would mean that the universe has no beginning, If energy was present before the big bang, then so was the universe. This confuses me.

I pester my math professor about this sort of thing all the time. you should see how frizzy their hair gets when you ask them questions involving black holes and luminal velocities.
