Late period; negative pregnancy test? Confused?

Question Posted Monday November 21 2011, 10:41 pm

I'm 19/f and me and my boyfriend had sex sometime at the beginning of November, or the end of October. Not real sure. I usually start my period around the 14 of every month. November, I haven't had it at all. I'm getting kind of worried because I usually don't miss a period, and if it's late its only by a day or too. I'm in my first year of college, and Im not ready for a kid right now. I should have thought about that before me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex. He used the pull out method, and it took him a couple of seconds to actually nut by him jacking off. I know prenut can get you pregnant, and I know the pull out method is one of the worst things to do. I should have used condoms, and birth control, but we don't have insurance, and I pay for everything and being a college student, I don't have money, period. It sucks.

But anyways, today would have been a week that my period is late, and I took a home pregnancy test, and it came back negative. Even thought my friends say I should be relieved, I'm still really stressed and worried. I know being stressed won't help my period arrive; but for some reason I just really don't believe I'm pregnant. I haven't had any symptoms at all. But I know that doesn't matter. So I'm stressed.

What do you guys think? Did I take my test too early? Or you guys think I might be in the clear?

Additional info, added Tuesday November 22 2011, 6:04 am:
I've also noticed that I am finally breaking out like I usually do before I start, and I'm irritated and very emotional like I normally would before I start. Does this mean I may be expecting my period before the 28th day?

Or is it because I'm stressed?

All the normal premenstral symptoms (moodiness, bloating, cramping, breast tenderness)can occur even when the boy IS pregnant. Basically it is no indication of anything. Relax and retake the test. You sound intelligent and responsible to make better decisions going forward. Hopefully this is just a wake up call. Good luck.

Oh, and I recall reading in a health journal that biting down on your tongue will cause a woman to menstrate.. lol... don't know if it is scientifically proven but what do you have to lose?!?

There are many things that can delay a period. Stess, Poor dieting, Illness etc.

A pregnancy test should be taken 7-14 days after intercourse. If you don't want to become pregnant then yes, you should start using condoms. You can buy a 3 pack for 4 bucks at just about any pharmacy. I wouldn't panic just yet as it's too early to tell, Stress could be playing a factor as well. I would advise you to be more cautious when having sex next time if you don't want a pregnancy.

Wait another week, Take another test. If you still don't have any signs then see a doctor.
