Scoliosis and Exercise: What exercises can I do safely?
Question Posted Saturday November 12 2011, 8:40 pm
Hi!
I have scholiosis and I was wondering what exercises could i do without hurting my back? I have growing rods in my back, and that limits my physical abilities. I am 35 pounds overweight and I need exercises that I can do that will help me lose weight. It is so frustrating because I can't lose weight and my mom won't buy me an eliptical because she doesn't think I'll use it. Please help!!!

just do things that are balanced left and right of your body. swimming is perfect for losing weight as well! cycling has helped me lots, BUT depends, Road bikes hurt your neck, MTB is too jarring to the discs. just regular biking will do. Pilates and yoga is really good, it seems like its relaxing or too easy but you feel the stretch and it keeps you agile. do not go for bowling, tennis, golf, baseball.. all are one sided... walking is good but you gotta have good shoes to cushion your heel and knees..
try swimming! its the best and cool too!
hope i was able to help! a physical therapist can recommend some exercises you can do in bed too...that will keep your back muscles strong. [ annabanana's advice column | Ask annabanana A Question ]
