How do at&t 4g phones work, exactly?

Question Posted Sunday October 2 2011, 11:48 am

im about to go and upgrade my phone. im getting a smart phone, and i know that to have one, i'll have to pay a data plan, which im fine with. but i've heard that i would have to pay even more to have a 4g phone.

is this true?
im buying the phone online, but will i have to pay an activation fee or have to pay the data plan right then when i take the phone to the store to activate it?

thank you.(:

If the phone is from the provider you currently use, you shouldn't have to pay an activation fee. You've already paid that once you began business with the service provider. The only cost you will incur is the cost of the phone. If you're getting an entirely new plan, you will have to shell out some money. Usually it's around $200.
