Boy trouble: My friend likes me, but I like his best friend instead. Do I give up?

So I have this best friend, he's like my best guy friend. Then his best friend is the guy I like.
Well we're all just a close group and we hang out so much.
Well my problem is that my best friend likes me. I don't like him like that and he's always known that I liked his friend. He's cool with it but I still feel bad. Then yesterday, his friend told me that he liked me.
So I was all happy but my best friend is always down and sad when me and this guy are play hitting each other or talking and stuff. I understand why he'd be like this, because he likes me and there's always gonna be a little jealousy.
So the thing is, I'm not sure what I should do.
I was thinking I'd just go with what makes me happy and be with the guy I like. But then I didn't want to hurt my friend and not care about his feelings by dating his best friend.
So I'm either thinking to just go along with it and my friend will eventually get over me or if I should just drop this guy and try to not pay so much attention to it anymore.
What should I do?
Thanks so much.

Xui answered Tuesday September 13 2011, 5:25 pm: If he is your best friend then he would want nothing more than you to be happy, I'm sure the guy would want to see you date his best friend then some random guy right? If you think he is upset and bothered then just reassure him that you two will still hang out as a group of good friends. Sometimes it hurts to see the one we like date our friends but in the end it should be about making them happy, Not making them feel bad about it. [ Xui's advice column | Ask Xui A Question ]
