Upper body weight loss?...

Question Posted Saturday July 9 2011, 3:43 am

19/f
Hi there, I was wondering if anyone knew any workout/weight loss/whatever tips for losing fat in my upper body? I'm a bit overweight, nothing too bad; I wouldn't call myself "fat". BUT I do believe I look a lot bigger than I really am due to the fact that I have somewhat broad shoulders & tend to retain fat in my arms, upper back, and like, I guess where my armpits are? :/ So that makes me look wide and like I have no boobs haha. Anyway, I know that whatever a person's natural body shape is, that's the way it is, no matter how much exercise one does. But unsurprisingly, the whole thing with my upper body is a lot more accentuated when I gain weight. Whenever I slim down, yes my overall shape is the same, but it evens out a little more.
The thing though is that I've heard any exercises targetting these areas tend to replace the fat with muscle... I don't want that. I don't want muscle. I just want fat loss. So can anybody help? I'd appreciate it. :)

You cannot target fat loss in specific areas of your body, it doesn't work like that. It's also impossible for women to put on muscles without either doing a hardcore training/bulking program, or taking steroids, so don't worry about that. The aim should be to lose fat overall without losing muscle tone. Exercising just these areas with help you to retain those muscles, but only in combination with a high protein diet. There will be no fat/muscle replacement going on!

Make sure you do an overall body toning program combined with a fatloss program (to burn calories), so that when the fat comes off you reveal your gorgeous toned limbs below!

Cardio cardio cardio. And try to eat a low carb diet. Avoid white bread and anything else that slows down your metabolism. You can jog a couple miles a day. I'm not sure how active you are? You can also go to the gym and get on the stair climbers or ellipticals. This will build muscle in your legs but it will help you lose fat.
