Waxing might hurt but it'll last longer than the shaving method and it'll be perfectly and desirably smooth. And you don't necessarily have to go to a salon to get it done. They sell wax in drugstores especially for legs and the bikini line so you can do it yourself.
My suggestion to you is do it shortly after you get out of the shower (when you're dry, of course), that way your pores have all opened up from the warm water and steam so waxing will be less painful.
I have tried using Nair, but it doesn't get rid of the whole hair. It's just a substitute for shaving basically.
