iwishiwereatree answered Tuesday June 28 2011, 7:17 pm: as a beginning tampon user, buy tampons with applicators. it's been a long time since i've used them, but i think tampax pearl would be a good one to try. it will look like this: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
they have instructions, but i remember it took me many tries to figure it out (though i started with o.b., which have no applicators!). it may be a bit hard or scary if you don't handle your vagina much, but don't freak out. if you are not too familiar with your vagina, start by trying to stick a finger in it when you shower, just to figure out where your vaginal opening is and what it feels like. if you don't feel comfortable doing that, then just start with trying to insert the tampon. wash your hands, sit down on the toilet, slouch down, unwrap a tampon and try inserting the rounded tip of the tampon into your vaginal opening, while holding it with 2-3 fingers at the opposite end of the wider plastic part (the strip in the middle in the picture). hold the applicator so that it's aimed towards the center of your belly. once you push it in at least one inch, or all the way to where you're holding it, push the long thin plastic part in. once you push it in as far as it will go, remove the applicator - your tampon should be in and the string will be sticking out, so you can remove it. you have to change your tampon less than every 6 hours.
