Why is my ex treating me so strangely?

Question Posted Friday June 17 2011, 12:02 am

My exboyfriend (who broke up with me about a month ago) and I spent some time together recently and his behavior was very strange. First of all, he literally shot me with spitwads like he was a little kid teasing his sister. Also, he was very reserved. Not rude or quiet, but very solemn and maybe even bored. I tried to act casual and behave the way I do when I'm with any other friends, but he didn't ever let down his guard to even smile at things that normally would have made him laugh. He was a complete 180 of the guy I used to know who was enthusiastic and fun. To top it all off, when we hugged goodbye he kept poking me in the back with his car keys. Now I can't tell what's sincere and what's him just being weird. I don't understand why he's acting so strange so I can't tell whether or not I should keep pursuing a friendship, or just give it more time before trying again? I'd think it's because he doesn't love me anymore and doesn't really want me in his life, but then why did he meet up with me when he didn't have to?

May I be blunt?

He enjoys spending time with you, but doesn't have any romantic feelings toward you anymore. He's treating you like a friend to get the point across to you (without having to say it) that he just wants to be friends.

Immature? Yes.
Typical? Yes.
Annoying, hurtful, and unnecessary? Yes, yes, and yes.

But that's what this sounds like to me.

Good luck.
