Do you think by telling him how I feel will make my situation more awkward?

My friend asked him out for me and I always try to impress him but never works because I always make a fool out of myself. He just broke up with his girlfriend and he said he liked me as well.
This is what I'm going to say "Hey look, I know we haven't spoken in a while but I like you a lot. I know you know and I just want to get this off my chest, not from anybody else. I know you just broke up with your girlfriend, that's OK, I don't expect you to feel the same way about me but I just want you to know how I feel so we don't feel this awkward barrier between us". If a girl or a guy said that to you what would you say HONESTLY?
Because we work together, there's never a time where I can talk to him about this because he always runs off.
we never talk like we used to anymore because it's so awkward right now. It's just hi and bye. I'm 27
You only live once.. why hesitate?? Take the chance and do whatever you want, because in the end, you want to look back at your ACCOMPLISHMENTS, not the things you were too scared to do.
If it does get awkward, well its his fault because you didn't do anything wrong. All you did was tell him the truth about how you feel. After you tell him how you feel, the ball is in his court. He has to decide what to do next. And if it becomes awkward, well thats his mistake for making it awkward.
I know this may sound scary.. but your life could end tomorrow. It could end next week. Or next month. You never know what could happen. Stop being so hesitant and scared. Do thing things you want to accomplish before its too late.
