Modeling advice? Any reliable modeling companies?

Question Posted Monday April 18 2011, 6:55 pm

Hello

so I was looking at pictures of my friend and noticed that she does some modeling. She has a lot of professional pictures of her and when I asked her about it, she said she does some modeling. I told my boyfriend this and he suggest that I do some modeling too. He think i'm really pretty and have a great body. I'm not that confident in myself, so i don't really think I would actually get a gig.. But my boyfriend also said If i were to get one, it would boost my self esteem and make myself feel better about myself. So I agreed to him that I would at least try to get a modeling gig and test it out. Well i've been doing some research but now I feel like its nearly impossible.. I mean, out of the thousands of pretty girls.. why would anyone want to have me as a model? I'm also a little scared. What if I apply for a modeling job but its a scam and something bad happens to me? I'm 18 girl by the way.

Does anyone have any modeling experience or advice? any reliable companies or websites to apply? tips? thanks!

Additional info, added Monday April 18 2011, 6:56 pm:
Oh and I can't really ask my friend about modeling because we don't live near each other and aren't very close. so It would be a little awkward if I just out of the blue asked about her modeling.. haha.

Go to modelmayhem.com and look for girls in your area and ask them who's a good reliable photographer. A lot of photographers will do trade-for-photos. Which means he takes your picture, gives you copies but gets to use your pictures to make money. If you decide to pay for them on your own, it can get a little expensive but you need to get some professional ones done to get started. You can have your boyfriend take a few different pictures and load them on the site to get the ball rolling and wait for photographers to contact you. I hope this helps and good luck.

Why couldn't you ask her more about it? there's nothing wrong with expressing an interest in what she does, who with and how to try it. Nothing at all!

What you need to know is that you cannot sign with any agent without an adult present or if they insist on a portfolio of photos, lessons etc through them. You also need to know that for acting or anything else that nobody in the industry goes online looking for talent so it's a scam if they mention that.

Do not see any agent that isn't on ACTRA (Canada) or SAG (America) lists of reputable agents for film, stage, tv, modeling.

While it may be hard to score a modelling gig the easiest job to attain in the industry is that of an extra or background talent agent. You'll be on set and making a guarenteed amount per hour.
