It's the vagina's natural way of keeping itself clean and is completely normal. Females will usually start producing discharge a year or so before they have their first period and continue to have it until the menopause, when their periods stop.
Normal discharge varies between being thick and 'goopy' to thin and slightly sticky and should be a clear, white or off-white colour. Normal discharge will only have a slight odour and shouldn't cause any discomfort, itching or burning.
If your discharge changes colour, texture or has a strong odour then it could be a sign of a vaginal infection or STI and you should make an appointment with a doctor or gynecologist.
