I'm a very cynical person. I ALWAYS think that people are just selfish and manipulative. This is obviously a problem because it prevents me from being close with others. Also, it's the cause of most of the fights between me and my boyfriend. How do I fix this? I don't want to think so badly of everyone all the time...I just have this constant "everyone is out to manipulate me" idea. How do I stop thinking this way and become more trusting of people? I just want to be happy and assume the best of people. Thank you for any advice.
Next time you get worked up about a situation.. before reacting, find yourself a quiet spot and reflect on the situation. Write notes, draw pictures, think of what music comes to mind, watch tv, cook, do some pushups, go for a run. Take into account everything. Wake up 15 minutes early every day to be alone and meditate. Pray about your desire to be less cynical. Ask God to open your eyes and hearts to people who are good-hearted and loving and self-less so that you will see the benevolence (goodness) in these people. Katlyn answered Sunday March 6 2011, 6:21 pm: Your not the only person with this problem a lot of people are like that and the best way to deal with it is think of how you would like to be treated before thinking badly about someone think of how you would feel if thats how someone felt about you before you decide on how a person is try and get to know them tell yourself that you dont know enough about them to think there bad basically thinking before acting will help. Good luck :) [ Katlyn's advice column | Ask Katlyn A Question ]
