Starting my own business and pattenting

Question Posted Sunday February 20 2011, 10:26 pm

If I have an idea for a shampoo recipe and I am going to make like 20 flavors. Do I have to get each and every recipe pattented or can I just get the base recipe pattented and the subtle changes can be left out, or what? Thank you :)

Additional info, added Sunday February 20 2011, 10:32 pm:
I just wanted to elaborate a little bit, what I meant by base is like ok: soap water oatmeal...and then I would make variations of strawberry and cherry and a blueberry. Can I just get the soap water oatmeal patented or do I have to do each one?
Thanks
.

you have to have all the ingredients made by yourself. i think brand name water is okay to use though.
