I just got a new couch. I really dont want my cat jumping on it because she scratched up my old one really bad. How can I train her not to jump on it? Shes an older cat.
This is how cats live and thrive. The best way to prevent your cat from sitting on the couch it so simply pick her up, and put her down everytime she sits on the couch. You need to be patient, especially as she is older. Whenever she gets onto the couch, simply pick her up, and put her on the floor. Whatever you do, be consistent. If oneday you cant be bothered, and think "she's only sleeping...and im tired", stop, and move her off, as if you give her mixed signals, she will get confused.
What you can also do, it get a really comfortable cat bed, or pillow, and place it where you dont mind her sleeping. This can be her own territory, and she will be comfortable.
