I have never ran into a "sniffer dog" problem at a train station and I have traveled by train out of state for over 5 years.

I do however know there is limited luggage allowed per person, You may want to call the train station and ask how much luggage they allow if you plan on carrying a lot.

They only check your bags if you are suspicious, They do not check bags/luggage just for the hell of it nor did they ever at the train stations I were at. Carrying a closed bottle of alcohol should not be a problem as long as you keep it in the bag and not out in the open.
