I'm an american living in england.
So I'm 18 and in my last year of high school. I have no friends and spend all of my time alone. Part of the reason is because I had health problems last year so had to take a year off of school, drop my college offers and come back to join the year below. So I don't really know anyone and all of my old friends are going to uni across the country. I also have no relatives cause they're all in the USA.
I never had many friends in the first place. I've had an issue with that since the beginning of high school. The school I go to is really preppy, I can afford it because of a scholarship but feel really out of place. A lot of people spend their weekends/vacations horse-riding, going on yachts and visiting each other in country homes in mainland Europe.
I'm just so unhappy being isolated. Can't wait to go to college but I'm really afraid i'll be isolated there too. Sorry that was long. Any advice please?
Thanks for the inbox question. That wasn't long at all, and I totally understand where you're coming from. Although it might not be the best option, I would say meet friends online. It won't intimidate you, you'll be able to be friendly, and get to know eachother. You can also join clubs at school. I'm not as social either with my anxiety problems, but when people give me a chance all they see are smiles. Do you have at least one friend who you can go out with and meet new people? As far as college, it might be different. You just have to make yourself available. I'd suggest going out with a friend and taking the city by storm. Meet people online like on facebook or myspace. You can even join groups online and meet people with similar interests! I, for one, wouldn't mind if you wanted me to be someone you can talk to either. Though I'm in the US lol. I hope this helps!
