i dont know what to do. he's extremely distraught and suicidal!

Ok so i have this guy friend that i have become rather close with lately, sure enough i backed off cause he has a girlfriend of whom he's been with for 5 years. Then he tells me that they broke up and now he's extremely distraught and suicidal. I cant imagine what he's going through because i have never been in a relationship myself. He then told me that his now ex girlfriend has a new boyfriend, as soon as they broke up. Now he's even more upset. To top it all off the new guy is being ridiculously mean to him etc etc. He told me that he doesnt want things to work out with her, that its done but he's still fragile.
I dont know what to say or do to try and help him...or whether i should back down till hes ok again. i dont know help?

This is a terrible situation. I feel terribly, sorry for your friend.
There is not muh you can do for your friend. Make sure your ALWAYS there for him though. Sit him down and tell him that he has to get help. Help him through it. Get him into a counsellor. Make sure he realises everything he does have (amazing family and friends) instead of the stuff and people he has lost.
