Is it bad to hold your poop in for a long time?

Question Posted Saturday October 9 2010, 10:58 pm

TMI ALERT | TMI Alert | TMI Alert

When I was a kid I guess I was kind of scared of the toilet. It sounds stupid now but my dad had joked about the potty monster and I guess I was just scared. I used to hold my poo in for a very long time to avoid having to stay in the bathroom for awhile.

I'm almost 16 now and I'm not afraid of the toilet but I still hold it in a lot. I go maybe once every week and a half but I have gone as long as 1 whole month without pooping. It's like when I try to go now it just won't come out.

I'm not sure if I should like talk to a doctor about this or what. I guess this isn't normal but I dont know if it's dangerous or harmful to hold poop in. It makes my bowels like hard or something so it's painful. I'm afraid I screwed something up when I was a kid by holding it all the time. I've never seen blood in my stool but it definitely does NOT feel right

You should definitely go see a doctor.
Right now would be a good time to try and help yourself, before something *could* go very wrong.

They can help you make your bowel movements more regular, and healthy.

This is not a good thing.

I suggest you see a doctor and discuss what's the best way to change your bowel habits.
