I'm 23, and I'm generally okay with buying them. I think it depends on the relationship you're in. When I get to the checkout, I usually get wished luck because the lady assumes I'm trying to conceive XD

However, I think there's one time when it is embarrassing, and that's when you run into someone you know. I ran into a professor of mine once and had to have a conversation with him before turning down the family planning aisle. He saw me looking at pregnancy tests, turned fuschia and looked away. Funny stuff. I think it's just because it's evidence that you're having sex, so it makes them think briefly about you having sex, and that embarrasses both of you.
