Question Posted Wednesday September 8 2010, 1:00 am
I have a mirena IUD as birth control and I was reading about it and most places have said that its 99% effective in its first year of use. I am in the second year of using it so I was wondering if the effectiveness goes down as the years go by and how effective is it in the second year. I am EXTREMELY fertile and my bf says he is too so I am curious what you all think my chances are with that in? I have heard that quite a few women actually do get pregnant with it in... is that true?
My mother got pregnant with my brother 3rd child while using an IUD. It's supposed to be effective, but like everything else, it can fail. If you're serious about not getting pregnant, then you should consider this + other contraceptives. I'm not saying it will happen, but it's certainly possible.
