Hi, you answered my question about the kind of music my boyfriend likes. Some of the stuff you were saying about subgenres of metal confuses me, but I will tell you all I know about what he listens to. He listens to bands like Disturbed, metallica, and skillet. I do admit I like a few songs, but you can't just listen to a few songs over and over till they bore you to death, haha. I like Comatose by skillet and Down With The Sickness isn't too bad. If you can help me find some more interesting music we can both agree on that would be awesome, thanks!
Well, there's really a lot of stuff out there. Metal is a genre of tolerance, so it depends musically and vocally on what you're able to tolerate. A good start for non-metal people would probably be in progressive sludge stuff like Baroness or maybe Mastodon's latest record... or you could go the thrashier route with early Metallica or Megadeth or Anthrax. You wouldn't be able to handle death metal or black metal right now, but maybe you could stomach the atmospheric expanses of post metal like Isis. [ Matt's advice column | Ask Matt A Question ]
