If you've recently been heartbroken, how does working out help you, especially mentally?

You just put on your favourite music of course the music that doesn't remind you of that heartbrake you got , also , it helps you feel better and it eases out your pain more meaning that you'll feel more calm and relaxed , no pressure it put on your brain or anything , it just let's you relax and sweat. My advice to you is it helps you to get it off your mind and helps you relax. Go to some classes it makes it even better , plus there's cute guys at the gym anyways to look at , it works too.

Studies have found that that exercise can
* Releasing feel-good brain chemicals that may ease depression (neurotransmitters and endorphins)
* Reducing immune system chemicals that can worsen depression
* Increasing body temperature, which may have calming effects
It can also help gain confidence, increase social interaction, keep your mind busy, keep you active in a healthy way.

Well I took a Psychology class last year and remember that a study showed that depressed people who did any form of exercise or sports improve dramatically and quickly (even more so than those who saw a psychologist regularly). It has something to do with the feel-good hormones that are released in the brain while exercising. I want to say that the name of the hormone is dopamine but my memory fails me. Immersing yourself in any type of sport(team sport if you're still in school)or other method of exercise will help you tremendously. I wish I had been on a school team post-break up X).
