Hotmail, scam?

Question Posted Sunday August 15 2010, 6:58 am

So, this morning I got this message in my Hotmail inbox:
"Account Alert

Dear Valued Member,

Due to the congestion in all Hotmail users and removal of all unused Hotmail Accounts, Hotmail would be shutting down all unused and unconfirmed Hotmail Accounts, You will have to confirm your E-mail by filling out your Login Info below after clicking the reply botton, or your account will be suspended within 24 hours for security reasons.

User Name: .................
Password: ......................
Date of Birth: ......................
Country Or Territory: ...................

After following the instructions in the sheet, your account will not be interrupted and will continue as normal. Thanks for your attention to this request. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Warning!!! Account owner that refuses to update his or her account before two weeks of receiving this warning will lose his or her account permanently."

I somehow find this hard to take seriously. It doesn't look legitimate, and it's a bit strange.
So I was wondering if this is actually real, or some spammer again. The address where I received this from is not displayed.

Thank you.

Hi there,

I get several of these a day... and I don't even have a hotmail account.

I get them supposedly from yahoo, in my yahoo box and supposedly from gmail...

... the only difference is this:

With gmail, these ALWAYS end up in my spam box and usually someone has already marked them as "phishing."

Anything you get like this is going to be fraudulent.

May I humbly suggest that you give gmail a whirl? The spam filter is the best of all I have tried.

Good for you, by the way, knowing something just wasn't quite right here. :-)
