Hello ,
So I just got a new job , and it's sort of like a server and waitress in a big hall , I was wondering , what are some tips to do to impress the people around you?
well as a customer i can tell you what i consider in a good waitress
-patience. i know some of my family can take ages to order. so just be patient.
-bubblyness. as a coach i notice kids get bored.. VERY easily. ALOT. sometime kids have those colouring things on their menu. maybe compliment them if they are colouring it in. "aww that looks pretty" cus i for one used to be so bored in restaurants withmy family. and when i say a kid i mena like 6 years old..not like 10 lol
and im going to share a story which backs up my bubbly suggestion. we once had a waitress in pizza hut that actually sat at our table, we were like on a bench thing. and she was al "hi im patricia, im your waitress for this evening, if you need anything please dont hesitiate to call me over! are you guy ready to order?" she was one of the older generation though so she got away with that i think i dont know if the younger generation would be able to but then again i dont know how old you are! you might like to try it! =) it is something i will always remember because she just had loads of enthusiasm
-which is my next point. enthusiasm. this you will need to show your boss as well as customers. everyone wants an entusiastic employee to strives for suceess.
-smiley is the way forward. i mean some people might be stopping at this place because they have had a fight with their partner. a warm smile for no aparent reason goes a very long way.
- politeness. sir, madam, ma'am, the lady, these kind of gensttures are alot better than that stingey old bugger on table 4. calling someone sir and madam generally makes someone feel specail. like royalty because its a posh label.
-apologeticness. i cant tell you how many times i have ordered something that the restaurant have *just* ran out with. and id much rather have my waitress say "im ever so sorry madam but we do not have the shepards pie today, *gives reason, which may be your stock hasnt come in, or is late, or you have genrally just ran out*, is there anything else that you would like madam?" rather than "we dont have the shepard pie today, what do you want instead". wording is everything to a customer hehe.
intrest. act as though the customer is more than jsut a customer, so, check up on them, "hello again sir, how is your meal, is there anything you or your party would like that i can get for you? is everything to your standard?" because i knwo for one that i will finish my drink in an instant. so i might want another while eating. general intrest given to your customers will make them feel more waited on and relaxed. You have to be VERY friendly. If you're having a bad day, you have to put your problems aside, make sure you have a smile on your face and continue working.
Ask the people how they are doing today. Joke around with them, it enhances the dining experience for your customers and everyone prefers a waitress who has a sense of humor and is vibrant as opposed to "dead" and boring.
Also, when you're smiling, being nice and friendly, you get tipped much better than if you just do your job.
I'm not sure what else you need to know, but message me if you need some more info :)
Good luck on your new job!!
ADDITIONAL:::
People get mad when they don't get what they want. Don't take it personally. you'll have the nice ones and the crazy ones. Just smile and be nice. If they give you an attitude after that, it's their personality, not your fault. If you have a blushing problem, I highly recommend wearing liquid foundation all over your face...it also helps keep your face from going red while you're running around getting dishes. So basically, if you get hot, it'll cover up the red face :) [ es's advice column | Ask es A Question ]
