Can you become a virgin again if you don't have sex for awhile?
Question Posted Wednesday July 21 2010, 3:06 am
My granny is a really nice lady but I think she's losing it. I told her today that I was having sex with my boyfriend. I just felt like I needed to have one of those conversations with her where I really spilled my guts to her. She told me I should stop doing it right away, obviously...so that I could be a virgin again for my future wedding night!
Now, Granny is up there in age. I told her that once you lose your virginity that it's just gone. She kept saying she didn't believe that and that after not having sex for 10 years straight that you become a virgin again. She says that SHE is a virgin. My grandma had like 14 kids or something incredible so I tried explaining that to her.
Well, I'm kind of curious if she was on to something though. She was very firm in that she is a virgin again now. If you don't have sex for 10 years then are you really a virgin again? Can you just gain your virginity back by being pure again? It's OK if it's not true like I thought but I just need this confirmed.

There are also surgical ways to rebuild the hymen, making you physically appear to be a virgin.
Your grandmother is using the first argument. She is declaring herself 'pure' again, and there is no reason to argue with her. Physically, nothing about her body has changed because she hasn't had sex in a decade. Technically, not has changed about her experiences. She is not a virgin in any medical or technical sense of the word.
However, if she wants to call herself 'pure', no one can argue with her. She is just using a made up definition of the word virgin. It's like me calling myself Purple. People can turn to me and say "But you aren't purple." and I'll say "Yes I am, because to me purple means 'a cool twenty something girl who gives good advice.'"
It's not necessarily that your granny is 'loosing it' but she grew up in a world with a lot less science and understanding about sexuality, so she is prone to these kinds of beliefs that have nothing to what is physically real, and are all about what feels correct to you. If it really bothers you, use the word 'pure' rather than virgin when you speak to her. She's is probably using them as though the mean the same thing. As long you as recognize they don't, there is no reason to pick a fight with a friendly old lady. [ Razhie's advice column | Ask Razhie A Question ]

It all really depends on what you believe, some religions believe that if you are cleansed of your sins such as sex before marriage then you can reclaim your virginity and be pure again.
