For about a year now, my boyfriend and I have had "dry sex". We stimulate each other through our clothing. Recently, he's fingered me. Is this considered sexually active and cause to go to a gyno?
Simply because you can still contract many illnesses and STDs. Doctors very much need to know if you've engaged in any type of sexual activity. Handjobs and mutual masturbation (getting fingered, in this case) need to be counted as "sexually active" because of the risk of disease that can be spread during these activities. It's important to inform your doctor when you have been sexually active and how many partners you have had.
If you feel the need to clarify, you can do so in the doctor's office by saying, "I am sexually active because I've been fingered but I have not had actual intercourse or oral sex yet." The doctor will know that you have been at risk for STDs before and will be able to help give you a proper diagnosis, treatment, or thorough check-up because of this.
Diseases like herpes and HPV can be transmitted by fingers/hands--more if there are cuts on the fingers. Always wash your hands before touching your genitals. Make sure to always have your partner wash his hands before touching you. Washing isn't going to kill everything that may be lurking deep under the nails but it can help to get some of the icky things normally picked up during daily activities off and cut down on spreading germs.
Just because you're not at risk for pregnancy doesn't mean you're not doing something sexual / engaging in sexual activities. See what I mean? ;)
You should probably see a doctor for your regular exam. The month you started your period? You should have seen a doctor then, once every year. It's a regular health examination. It ensures you are an healthy adult woman. It's past time to be seeing a doctor for your yearly examinations.
Just because you're not sick now doesn't mean you shouldn't get your yearly check-up. It's like skipping the dentist because you don't have a cavity yet or because you haven't eaten sweets in 6 months. It's something you need to do to make sure there are no underlying problems that you don't realize you have. It's to make sure everything looks alright and you are developing properly.
