why does rinsing your hair with cold water make it shiny

i still don't believe it really works even after i did it myself! why does rinsing your hair with cold water make it shiny? all I did was rinse my hair and dry it in the coldest water i could get and my hair shines like crazy!

The surface of your hair is made up of cuticles. Hot water and using heat products such as hair dryers and straighteners cause these cuticles to stand up, stopping it from shining. When you use cold water, it seals the cuticles so they lie flat and are able to reflect the light more, making your hair look shiny.
