so then just leaving him alone is key to getting him back?
and what would be the point of waiting?

Well if you continue to pester him, you will drive him away. But if you leave him alone without any contact, he will see what it is truly like to be alone and without you. When he sees that it is not how he wants to feel, he will come back. I don't mean literally sit around and wait for him. I would suggest dating around or hanging out with other people and wait and see if he comes back. But I guarantee that if you call, text, message him after he broke it off, he will permanently stay away. If he wants to be with you, he will make the effort to do so. If not, he isn't interested, but you shouldn't completely pine for him. Just date and have fun a little with the thought of him coming back.
