Are you planning on becoming a reporter or a writer who is taken seriously by the industry, peers and readers? If so, a site where people rate your material and write comments that may or may not be appropriate and or inflammatory isn't the right idea for you.

A few years ago it was easier for teens to get into the journalism industry and write for real publications and professional editors. It's harder now as less and less publications and bureaus that work with teens exist.

If I were you I would look into Teen Ink Magazine which is easy to find through Google. They have existed since 1989 and have real teens like yourself working for professional editors on an assortment of stories for a real magazine available online and by subscription.

I'm not sure if they still exist and haven't tried logging on in a long time but Young People's Press in Toronto, Canada helped writers 14-24 write for a variety of e-zines, The Herald in Halifax and Toronto Star. Their site I believe was ypp.net Like I said, haven't logged on in ages.

Another place that does the same thing as Young People's Press is an outlet called Ypress.org They work with people your age in a real newsroom, assign stories and have you report them for the Indianapolis Star. Now, I can't be sure if needing to be in Indiana is a must or if they'll take submissions for that paper from people outside of that area.

What I do know about them is that they would be able to tell you how to get things kick started with your writing and who is out there that can get you into print.

The biggest issue is whether or not you can write well to be printed or show promise and can be trained by these people. Not everyone can be a professional writer. What you should be doing is taking all the English courses you can and studying grammar books and books on style and writing now so you have a leg up for college.

Virtually anyone these days can find blog software or programs on the Internet and set up a blog and be heard but that doesn't make you a writer.

If you really want to write for other people get on the path now to being a reporter and eventually going to college for it. For now, you can search for programs to help design a blog and go through Google and Yahoo to figure out how to list your page in their search engine.

If you really want to become pro one day you need clippings. I suggest calling a local newspaper not a daily but the one that comes to your door with tons of fliers. Talk to their editors and see if you can work during the summer helping their reporters and see if you can write something for them with their assistance. I did that myself at your age.
