I have been studying french since middle school, but I would like to start studying german this fall in college. I have already pre-registered for an advanced french class, but there is an introductory german class which meets at the same time. There isn't enough room in my schedule to take both classes first semester. Should I take intro german this year or put it off until next year while I focus on proficiency in french?
Josette answered Wednesday June 23 2010, 3:21 am: I'm going to be a sophomore in college next year and I am minoring in Italian. Language classes at the collegiate level are very challenging and much more time consuming than they were in high school, especially in addition to the rest of your courses. I would recommend taking French in the fall and then German & the next level of French your second year. If you took German your first year and French your second year you might forget most of the French that you learned in high school. [ Josette's advice column | Ask Josette A Question ]
