Posting someone's number online

Question Posted Saturday June 5 2010, 8:16 pm

I'm wondering if it is illegal to post someone's phone number on a blog or chatroom or just online without their consent? An ex boyfriend posted my name along with my cell phone number online in a chatroom and I am now getting sexual texts and calls from random weirdos. I was reading that it is a violation of privacy and considered harassment but is there anything I can do to take it to the next level and have him get in trouble for this?

Yes, It is invasion of privacy and harassment

If you have proof that your number was posted by your ex boyfriend you can go to the police and file a complaint for violation of privacy, If you do not have proof you could go to the police station and try to state your complaint but there is no guarantee they will do something about it however I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try.

The advice I can give you, Try going to your cell phone company and see if you can possibly change your cell phone number. They may charge you a fee but hell it'd be better than all these harassment text messages. If your ex wants to play games, Then play his game by getting his ass in trouble.
