How do I win the Junior Class election as President, as a new kid in school

Question Posted Thursday April 29 2010, 5:00 pm

I just moved here 2 months ago from New Jersey to Texas and barely anyone knows me.. I was thinking about going all out with a big campaign, introducing myself to many people, putting up funny posters, and handing out flyers. Theres 2 other people running against me.. I talked with the principal and there's only the Secretary position left that nobody's running for, but I know I will make a great president because I have a lot of great ideas, and Im dedicated, creative, and a good leader. We arent doing any speeches so I was thinking about going around lunch introducing myself to everyone and stuff.. Im a bit worried though since a bunch of people's first impression of me running is me camapigning. but im nice and everything.. i wont just say hi to them now and ignore them later. im just a bit shy now. i want to represent what they want fixed in the school.. I already have some ideas of what I can do, like with a suggestions box and taking polls and stuff like that. I've been to 8 schools in 3 different countries, so Im more cultured and everything than my opponents who may not have even left America, much less the state, or lived in oter places. Its a great advantage. I want to do a career in International Relations when Im older, so being president could help me get into college too I guess.. more than Secretary. Because we'll be the same people running for next year, so I'd rather run for president now than run against someone when we'd been working together throughout the year.. and then i like backstab them and try to get their job. Its the schools FIRST ever school election.. im worried about if people are like "whos this new girl from new jersey coming to change everything about texas, what does she know about life here" but im not gonna be like my way runs everything.. would you think that if someone new came to your school and ran? Blahhh.. please help. I have to set up everything this weekend before school on Monday. People so far know Im good in school.. overachiever i guess.. idk about my other classes but I have 96s in Math & English, and next year Im taking all the Dual-Credit classes I can (no AP), and then Honors everything else. Gosh please give me advice! Or call me a fool and tell me I should just run for Secretary? Idk! Ive never done this before but I know I can do it and I have the opportunity.. so why not right?

*Its a small school btw

You're obviously a really smart girl and just by reading this I'd vote for you ;)Maybe since nobody is running for secretary yet you could talk to your principal and see if there is a way to do the voting and campaigning seperately so if you weren't able to become president you could compete again to be secretary afterwards. Other than that I think letting people know that you've got a lot of experience in different schools around the world is a huge benefit compared to other people running. The only thing that I can think of that might be to your disadvantage though is that being a new student a lot of kids are probably just going to vote for the person that they know instead. Definitely make yourself known and get out there and introduce yourself a lot. Maybe even put together some kind of a party that you could invite the classmates to if at all possible? Best of luck to you though :)
