drivers permit and license

Question Posted Thursday March 18 2010, 7:21 pm

I'm 16 and I was supposed to get my driving permit. I just realized that I have to get it in literally within the next three days or else I won't get my license on my birthday because you have to have your permit for six months. If I get my permit about a week after than I'm supposed to, how long after will it be until I get my license? Because apparently if you don't get it before the six months you have to wait a looong time. I hope it's not too long :/ Anyone know?

if you get it a week after you're supposed to, then you'll be able to get it a week after your birthday.

In my state it is 9 months you have to have your permit. I do know that if you get your permit 3 days late, so you wouldn't get your license until 3 days after your 16th birthday. You don't have to wait a long time, you just have to wait the time that it takes for you to complete the 6 months of having your permit.

It would help to know what state you live in, because each state has different rules. Where I live, you get your permit, wait 6 months, then get your license. I don't see why they would say you have to get your license on an EXACT day or else you have to wait longer. That doesn't make sense to me. You can call your local courthouse, or the place that does the permits, and ask them, or go and get an instruction book that you study for your test from, and that should tell you all the rules. Or you can do a quick search online (there are usually official .gov sites for each state that talks about the requirements).
