How do i prevent getting mrsa?

my reeaaaallly close friend just got diagnosed with MRSA. she is a volleyball player and its on her knees. she's had it since janurary and she didn't know it til now, march. how should i stay away form it and not catch it? what can i do to prevent it? how can oneself get it?
