I can't seem to focus on anything. (A lack of drive)

Question Posted Tuesday March 2 2010, 6:38 pm

For the past 2-3 years I have found myself stuck in a rut. I have not been able to focus on anything, and I constantly seem to be wasting time. I am interested in just about everything under sun, yet I can never stick to doing one thing long enough for me to make substantial progress.

I used to spend ALL my time playing MMORPGs, yet they no longer entertain me. I haven't been able to find anything that could hold my attention since I quit. A lot of people say I am talented in about everything I do, yet still... for some reason it is difficult for me to simply focus.

It has gotten to the point where I can't stand it. Everyone around me is making progress, yet i stay in the same place, just doing different things. Someone who can do everything moderately well is useless in a specialized world. I want to find some sort of specialization. Something I could pour my blood, sweat, and tears into.

Advice?

Additional info, added Wednesday March 3 2010, 2:46 pm:
RE: Please let me know the following information, at your convenience: Age, job (if any) previous jobs (if any) marital status, relationship status, areas of interest outside of the computer.

16, Student, No Job (I want one but I feel there are people out there who need the available jobs more than I do), and I'm single but it is complicated.

As for my interests outside the computer: I like going out for tea, reading, writing, drawing... there are other things I like but I RARELY get to do them so I don't feel they are worth listing.

edit: And sadly, I just woke up at 1:46
.

I think you should get a job. Sorry but, "No Job (I want one but I feel there are people out there who need the available jobs more than I do)" is the stupidest thing ive ever heard. Your basically saying, "i want a job, but i dont want to take the effort to apply, and actually do the work".

If you like drawing, why dont you take an evening class. Why not go back into education? Find a simple job, even flipping burgers! that way you gain experience, get money, can work your way up, and even spend some type doing something different. What do you really enjoy? Computers? Sounds like it...do something relating to computers? You like mmorpg's, why not try and become a games designer. I know loads of people who were in that profession. Long story short, the above may sound harsh, but sometimes you need someone to kick you in the kaboooooss!!

Try different things (which you have)...see what you enjoy more, further experience it, get deeper into the subject.

18, student studying history, work as a sales assistant (part time), single (marital), have a girlfriend (relationship status), interests include: my heritage, history, politics, xbox 360, reading, working out.

Good morning. Yes, I think a live chat online with you would be in order. I have a number of questions that will give me a much better idea where you are in life and what direction to send you.

Please let me know the following information, at your convenience: Age, job (if any) previous jobs (if any) marital status, relationship status, areas of interest outside of the computer.

Thats a good start. Then we can set up a time to IM or something to get a little further down the path.

Looking forward to working through this with you,

Dear Susie
