life jackets

Question Posted Tuesday January 5 2010, 7:04 am

Is it ok to cut the understrap off my lifejacket? Or not wear it? I'm not the best swimmer in the world, but it's uncomfortable and annoying. I thought that was a feature only on kid's jackets. It's USCG approved and fits my weight requirements and otherwise a great jacket. Thanks :-)

I think its okay not to wear it if the jacket doesnt rise up when your swimming. If it stays snugly in place and keeps you afloat then you can not use the under strap feature, but I dont recommend cutting it off. You may want it at some point and I'm sure any directions or warnings that came with the life jacket say to always wear it.

Good luck,

-Abby
