It depends on your state. I know that in Michigan, if you are 16-17, you can have sex with anyone in that age range.

If you are 18 or older, you can only have sex with people 18 or over.

Google "age of consent laws for [your state here]" to get the specifics.

The general guidelines... as I know them to be in Colorado, at least, are as follows.

*Legal is age 18
*Below age 18, legal is 3 years down (so 17 for you in this case)
*The age of sexual consent is 16

If you take that all together, legally you're probably pushing it by being 16. It'll be better when you're 17, and most turn their heads.

The rule change from state to state. In general they're about all the same... I think Arkansas has a lower age of consent, Michigan has a higher one, I think... I'm not 100% sure, but in general, I'm going to rule this technically statatory...

LOOP HOLE
If you have your parents' consent, you and your 20 year old boyfriend are legal. So... get some consent...

Having a relationship is never illegal at any age anywhere. Having sex, however, may be. It all depends on where you live. If you're under the age of consent in your area and the two of you have sex, then he could end up arrested for statutory rape, even if it was completely consensual.

Since I don't know where you live, here's a link to a site that has a list of ages of consent around the world: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
