Could I be pregnant?

Question Posted Wednesday December 30 2009, 2:57 am

I'm on depo. I had the vaginal bleeding that usually can come with it for about 3 weeks. After my husband and I had unprotected sex, the bleeding basically stopped all of a sudden. I'm an athlete so I'm really active so I don't know if that could be a reason that my only other symptom is constant thirst? I really don't know.

Okay... Facts.

Depo is a pretty effective BC. Takes at least two weeks to kick in to full effectiveness though. Usually that's more of a four week thing, though.

Bleeding often stops abruptly after sex, because the "suction" created by the sex essentially pulls a lot of the blood out. That's why bleeding is often real heavy after sex (or during) and then you won't bleed for a while after you've cleaned up.

Athletic women experience, depending how athletic you are, less of a period and general bleeding. Your increased metabolism throws off the whole 28 day cycle thing. It even happened to my fat, lethargic butt when I went on a health kick and randomly started working out. It was neat, really.

So, are you pregnant? I don't think so. If it's been longer than 2 weeks since your unprotected sex, a pregnancy test is in order for clarification, but my opinion, based on what I know of you and what I know of your situation is that you're not pregnant.

Hope that helped.
